Three-Fold Biblical Dreams
and Visions.
Genesis 41:32 -- And for that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is
established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.
1Sa 3:3-4; 6-8 -- And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God [was], and Samuel was laid down [to sleep]; that the Lord
called Samuel: and he answered, Here [am] I.... And the Lord called yet again... And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to
Eli... And Eli perceived that the Lord had called the child.
Acts 10: 9-11; 16-17 -- Peter went up to the flat roof to pray... But while lunch was being prepared, he fell into a trance. He saw the sky open, and
something like a large sheet was let down by its four corners.... The same vision was repeated three times. Then the sheet was pulled up again to
heaven. Peter was very perplexed. What could the vision mean?
Note: Some 18th and 19th century commentators claimed that sacred tradition required a divine vision to be repeated three times, in order to confirm
that it was not demonic in its origin. If holy wisdom is thought of as precious spiritual treasure, then the overlap of biblical visions with secular dreams
concerning hidden riches becomes obvious.
